MIKE EDWARDS

Position Coach: O-Line, D-Line

Coaching Experience: 7 years (All as a varsity assistant at Reno High School)

Interests/Hobbies: If golf is a passion to Coach Worthen, then it is an obsession for me. I have been the Reno High golf coach for the last 3 years, and I play whenever I get the chance. I also have a passion for cooking where I have particular talent on the grill and using an old-fashioned dutch oven when camping. I spend a great deal of time with family in Auburn, California. I love hanging out with friends I have met and maintained throughout my life; there is, however, one special person with whom I spend a great deal of time, my girlfriend, Crystal Johnson.

What is your most memorable coaching experience at Reno High School?: My most memorable experience has been the numerous state championship games I have been involved with as a coach or a fan here at Reno High School.

Coach Avansino's Take: Coach Edwards, a.k.a. “Big Mike” or “Coach E”, has been to the highest levels of football. He was an All Big West Offensive Tackle for UNR, he played in NFL Europe (Amsterdam), he played in the XFL (Birmingham), and he spent several years in various NFL camps (Raiders, Falcons, and Redskins). Coach E is so athletic he is still able to run 110s with the team despite his large size (6’6”) and without ever conditioning. Coach Edwards has utilized his vast knowledge of football at every level to become the premier line coach in Northern Nevada. He has just recently been moved to the position of Dean of Students at Reno High School; he is teased by the staff that he is no longer “one of us” as he has decided to make that vertical jump by joining the administrative staff. He is and will be an outstanding educational administrator.
